Driving to southern California sounds boring. A handful of hours just sitting, looking at places along the way. That's how I used to look at it as a kid. I kind of still think of the drive as that, but now I have a camera at the ready if I see something neat. The thought of Disneyland also clouds the actual duration. It feels like a scenic safari going 75mph+ on Interstate 5. There are some nice views (and smells).
This was the first time taking a trip down south during winter, so I wasn't exactly familiar with the colors. Usually these drives are during summer, so everything looks dead. Something about landscapes "wow" me to no end. I just love seeing the land and the large scale of it. See some of my photos below.
Part 1 of "Driving to Anaheim" is a selection of photographs on I-5 South before the Grapevine. They were all taken with my Fujifilm X-E1 + XF18-55mm. Stay tuned for Part 2 and the VSCO edition. |
I was half asleep during the beginning of sunrise, so I wasn't camera ready. Still caught some of it. |

First pit stop. It was ridiculously freezing outside. |

Such lovely colors. The mountains in the distance are pretty sweet. |

Towers always amaze me. The mountains again. So cool. |
