Super City Summer 2016

Let's check out this urban electronic dance festival known as Super City Festival Summer 2016. It was mostly electronic with a dash of rap, to be honest. I went with Courtney, so this was more of being a fan and dancing around. Enjoying this event mostly relied on seeing Courtney enjoy herself. Dancing with her was such a blast, especially during Sage the Gemini's performance (the guy deserved a longer set). This was our first time really dancing and letting loose without thinking about what people saw. It's great knowing your significant other can keep up with you. That's right, keep up with me. :)

Since this is a fun post -- I felt so happy gearing up for Super City. I put on my favorite adidas shorts and floral tank top. She put on a gigantic temporary tattoo on my left arm and gave me Pokemon kandi. I adored her outfit so much, which you can sort of see in a picture at the bottom. Being in the bay area, that evening chill made us layer up earlier than expected. We put on our pants and sweaters, which I knew it would happen, but not as early as 8pm.

One thing I really appreciate about Super City is their attention to water stations. There was plenty of dispensers towards the back of the general admission floor. It wasn't chilled water, but at least we could hydrate with ease. The Coliseum had a few of the food fronts open the whole time, so getting some ballpark food was fun to do. We had some popcorn during Laidback Luke's set. Later on, during A$AP Ferg's set, we chowed down some chicken strips and garlic fries.

Performers (in order) and thoughts...

Jennifer Knight - missed.

Marty Grimes - missed. We were in the parking lot getting ready.

Team EZY - missed most of set, but caught last minute of it.

DJ Sliink - cool set -- wasn't dancing around yet.

Sage the Gemini - favorite set of the night, even if it was way too short of a duration -- danced around with the girlfriend.

Kiiara - an even shorter set to follow-up Sage -- sounds like a fantastic opportunity for these artists, but a festival like this should give every act 30 minutes minimum.

Laidback Luke - fun set that included bay area music.

Krewella - finally got to see them live. I might have been worn out a little to keep dancing during their set, so I mostly stood and appreciated their voices.

A$AP Ferg - sort of missed the set since we decided to eat dinner. It was super loud though. RIP to the people near the stage without earplugs. I recall Ferg asking to do one more song, but management got him off stage.

Skrillex - the headliner performing third to last. Apparently he had another event later in the evening elsewhere. Great set that really felt good, especially when Skrillex hypes us up.

Carnage - I don't know, man. Transitions. I don't know. Wasn't feeling the 20 second clips of songs before he shuts it down and starts yelling over and over.

DJ Snake - missed. Decided to head back home before traffic leaving the Coliseum got worse.

While I won't criticize the artists chosen for the festival. It does look like a weird line-up on paper, but whatever. We just wanted to dance together. I do have a problem with set time durations given to Kiiara and Sage the Gemini. These are artists that deserve to flourish the stage for at least a half hour each. Maybe event management can consider this as a bare minimum while organizing the next show. They should invite Flume for the next one.

The environment was positive vibes though. People we came across were usually considerate and apologetic if they bumped into us. It was mostly good times. Of course you see people vomit because some girl named Molly beat them up, but everything else was all gravy. Never once did I feel like Courtney and I were in an unsafe place on the dance floor. We had fun. That's what mattered. We finished up at our local In-N-Out to eat before calling it a night. :)
