Kraken Con Fall 2016 Coverage

The rain didn't stop folks from coming out to Kraken Con this past weekend. We arrived bright and early before doors opened Saturday morning, but a little wet after walking two blocks from our parking location. There was a fairly long line waiting to get into the main hall. The registration area had tables full of free swag to take home in the classic yellow Kraken Con bags. Notable items to take home were official posters for The Conjuring 2 and Star Trek Beyond.

This event is always a chill one to be at. It's enjoyable due to the less crowded atmosphere. There is plenty to do throughout the day, and it's all spaced out in the convention center. Progamming is filled up Friday to Sunday for people looking to be at Kraken Con all weekend. The usual gaming stage and video game console area made their return. Free water also made it's return! Kraken Con's exhibit layout has been consistent over the several events held here. I'm glad there hasn't been any drastic changes to the look & feel of Kraken Con, so people returning to these events can feel like they haven't left the previous one. Notable new attractions this time around was a flight simulator and planetarium in the main hall, which are pretty neat to see at a convention like this.

Special guests this time around include Charlet Chung (Overwatch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3), Kimberly Brooks (Steven Universe, BioShock Infinite), Max Mittelman (One-Punch Man) and Kyle Hebert (Street Fighter 5, League of Legends). Each guest had free autograph sessions on Saturday and Sunday, so fans were able to get one item signed for free during these time slots.

Apparently parking at the convention center is $35, and that certainly wouldn't work for us. Just venture a block or two around the area – you'll find considerably cheaper parking, even free street parking on Sundays. There's also a BART station nearby, but you won't find us on those things. The lot we found was $5 all day, so we were kind of okay with walking in the rain. That's what our signature ushankas and hoodies are for!

The next Kraken Con is scheduled on September 29 thru October 1, 2017, so get the dates marked on your calender for next year. View more photos from this Kraken Con with the links below. There's a set of photos featuring our friends, Magical Girls Cosplay & Ethereal Cosplay, that will be added to the album this week. Enjoy! :)
